Hotel location on St. Petersburg city map
The Prestige Hotel Basil is located on Basil (Vasilievsky) Island, the area originally planned by tzar Peter-the-Great - founder of St. Petersburg, to be the official and administrative center of the city, thus it is truly the historical heart of St. Petersburg. The neighbourhood consists of middle XIX century buildings.
Vasilievsky Island is a district of Saint Petersburg, bordered by the rivers Big Neva and Small Neva (in the delta of Neva) from South and Northeast, and by the Gulf of Finland from the West. Situated just across the river from the Winter Palace (also known as The Hermitage Palace), it constitutes a large portion of the city historical center. Two of the most famous St Petersburg drawbridges, The Palace Bridge and Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge, connect it with the mainland. The Stock Exchange Bridge and Tuchkov Bridge across Malaya Neva connect it with St. Petersburg Side (Petrogradsky Island). The southern embankment of Basil Island has some of the oldest buildings in the city dated from 18th century. That part of the island is notable for its remarkable architecture, rectangular grid of streets, with three prospects - Bolshoi (Big), Sredniy (Middle) and Maly (Small) - going roughly from east to west, and with 30 Liniya (Line) streets going perpendicularly from south to north.
All major places of interest and businesses are located nearby. It takes about 20-25 minutes to walk to the Palace Square, the world-famous Hermitage Museum (The Winter Palace); Nevsky Ave., the city main thoroughfare, and about 15 minutes to the splendid Spit of Basil (Vasilievsky) Island, which divides the Neva River into its two branches.
